Sheffield Lunar Chinese New Year Festival 2026 reaches its centrepiece this weekend as the city hosts what is now officially the largest Lunar New Year celebration in Yorkshire.

The festival began on Monday 16 February with a light switch on at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. Through the Lunar New Year and Ramadan light installations, more than £50,000 has already been raised in support of The Children’s Hospital Charity.

Presented by Cultural Inclusive CIC with support from Sheffield BID and Sheffield City Council, and in partnership with CHERY, the 2026 festival runs until 25 February and includes city-wide activity at Meadowhall, The Octagon and in schools across Sheffield.

The main free public celebrations take place this Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 February across the Peace Gardens, Fargate and Sheffield Town Hall and will feature the breath-taking Acrobatic Lion Dance performance at 12.15pm on both days at the top of Fargate with an additional performance at 3.15pm on the Saturday.
