BOOKS

With Pride month approaching, we anticipate a glowing celebration of queer liberation and joy. In a city like Sheffield, one of the greatest ways we can show support, love and pride for all is by supporting various queer-owned businesses. Providing safe spaces for all, these LGBTQ+ friendly spaces are well worth a visit this June and year-round.

Mr.Snipsnipp’s Barbershop

Firefly Alley, 22 Commercial Street, S1 2AT

The city’s first actively queer-friendly gender-neutral barbershop, Mr Snipsnipp provides a safe space for people of all gender identities and sexualities to get their hair cut and styled exactly to their liking. Free from any judgement or prestige, the barbershop actively takes away pressures gender-queer people can so often feel when getting their hair cut. Assumptions are thrown out of the window to create a positive and welcoming environment.

Andro & Eve

Andro and Eve is a queer arts organisation based in Sheffield. Their programme provides inclusive and accessible projects and events for the LGBTQ+ community and friends to enjoy queer culture, and connect with one another in Sheffield and across South Yorkshire. The organisation was originally created in 2016, in response to a lack of accessible offers to enjoy queer culture in Sheffield. They are the creators of one of the UK’s largest drag king cabarets and have been collaborating with Ghetto Fabulous, an arts organisation championing the work of QTIPOC creatives, since 2022.  Together, they produced Sheffield’s first Reyt Queer Extravaganza in July 2022. Since then, in collaboration with Ghetto Fabulous they have delivered queer dance workshops for LGBTQ+ people in Sheffield and they continue to create a platform for drag kings and Northern queer artists through The Kingdom Come, and queer cabaret, A Reyt Queer Do.
