Like the finest appellations of Burgundy and the most coveted California cab savs, nothing else in the world is quite like Sheffield Wine Week. Yes, the Steel City may be home to more breweries than vineyards, but now in its third year, this five-day wine celebration – recently named ‘Best Local Event’ – proves an appreciation for wine can grow even where chardonnay grapes may not. 

Taking place from Wednesday 24 June to Sunday 28 June, Sheffield Wine Week provides a platform for bars, restaurants and retailers across Sheffield and beyond to celebrate wine with offers or events of their choosing – from discounts to flights, tastings to talks. 

And once again, Sheffield Wine Week itself hosts the headlining event: Wine Week Fest @ Bole Hills on Saturday 27th June! Featuring over 20 wine vendors and expecting nearly 2,000 guests, this massive outdoor festival brings California flare to the hills of Crookes – offering loads of pay-as-you-go vino alongside food trucks, live music and other family-friendly activities. 

‘We are so excited to bring the Fest back for its second year,’ said Sheffield Wine Week co-founder and Tenaya owner Virginia Myers. ‘The event managed to capture just the atmosphere we had hoped for – a chilled out, family-friendly day enjoying a beautiful Sheffield green space with lots of interesting wines to discover. New wines were enjoyed, delicious food was eaten, and happy times were had! This year expect more wine, more food and more fun!’ 

Each year, over a dozen venues participate in Sheffield Wine Week, the North’s largest multi-day, multi-venue wine event. This year’s participants include official event sponsor Vintners on the Brook alongside Tenaya, The Old Shoe, Elm, Barks, Not Open; Don’t Come, Bench Group, Chocolate Bar by Bullion, Gills & Co, Hop Hideout, The Pangolin, Starmore Boss, The Three Tuns, and The Wonky Labrador… with more names joining all the time. 

Meanwhile, the Fest @ Bole Hills will be overflowing with incredible wineries and wine merchants. Those already scheduled to be pouring include Alliance, Ally, Barrique, Carte Blanche, Central, English Wine Project, Hazel End, Museum, Pandemonium, Passione Vino, Quality Ferments, Thorne, and Wanderlust. 

‘Some may consider advocating for wine in Northern England as perhaps a bit odd,’ said Sheffield Wine Week co-founder Mike Pomranz. ‘But it’s driven by genuine passion. And being passionate isn’t weird; it’s contagious. For three years now, this event has been growing: getting over a thousand people to come together to drink wine in Crookes, the awards – it’s just the beginning. We really do see Sheffield as a British hub for wine outside of London.’
