Sheffield’s newest music venue Electric Studios will officially open its doors this Friday 13 March, marking the arrival of a new space dedicated to live music, electronic culture and grassroots creativity in the heart of the city.

Alongside a busy programme of club events, the venue has already confirmed a series of major live shows across the year with early demand proving strong. With two concerts already sold out months in advance and others selling fast, the venue’s first season is already building serious momentum.

The first wave of live artists includes indie electronic pioneers St Etienne, cult US alternative rock band The Lemonheads, Welsh hip hop favourites Goldie Lookin’ Chain, rising indie band Overpass and legendary British folk rock group The Levellers. The venue will also host a special one night performance of Stop Making Sense Live celebrating the iconic Talking Heads concert film.

Alongside touring artists, Electric Studios will also host key nights led by Sheffield talent. On Thursday 20 March the venue welcomes Toddla T’s influential Steeze Factory for a takeover featuring Window Kid, Saint Ludo and Kasst 8 alongside Bigger Den We, a live session bringing together emerging local artists.

The opening weekend begins on Friday with a major launch event in partnership with Worried About Henry, one of the UK’s leading drum and bass promoters. The night will bring a full line up of heavyweight names to the venue including chart topping producer Wilkinson alongside Camo and Krooked, Culture Shock and Harriet Jaxxon. Wilkinson has become one of the most successful artists in modern drum and bass, with UK Top 40 hits including Afterglow, Dirty Love and Half Light.

Saturday 14 March continues the launch weekend with a live dub session headlined by Gentleman’s Dub Club alongside Mungo’s Hi Fi and Aziza Jaye on the massive Sinai Sound. Formed in Leeds in 2006, Gentleman’s Dub Club have become one of the most electrifying live acts in the UK reggae and dub scene. Their bass heavy performances have taken them to stages across the world including Glastonbury, Boomtown and Bestival. Their latest album On a Mission released in 2024 continues to push their distinctive blend of dub, reggae and electronic music.

Alongside the main room performance, the second room will showcase Sheffield’s deep roots in sound system culture. The Dubcentral Sound System will power the space with a full crew of selectors throughout the night, joined by Papa Al and Kom Kom representing JuJu Club and Junglist Alliance, bringing a heavyweight session that connects the international dub scene with Sheffield’s own underground community.

Across the coming months Electric Studios will continue to host club events through its Electric Loves series, working with promoters and underground collectives including RAZE, Snafu and Big Fat Rave. Artists confirmed for upcoming events include Ross From Friends, Jeremy Underground, Dr Banana, sim0ne, Call Super, Sully and Samurai Breaks.

Electric Studios is also developing a wider creative programme within the building. Plans are underway to offer free studio access for young people, giving emerging artists a place to rehearse, record and develop new work. A visual arts programme is also in development with exhibitions featuring Sheffield based artists expected later this year.
